Although I’m stuck inside this month while finishing my Master’s Thesis, I cannot help to dream about all the beautiful places around the world that I would love to visit this May. If you still don’t know where to go, here are the top five places that I would rather be right now.
In May last year I visited Bergen
when travelling around Norway with my best friend. Although Bergen is still rather cold in May (8-15 degrees), it’s such a beautiful city, and definitely worth visiting before the hoards of tourists arrive in the summer. May 17th is the national day for Norway, which includes parades, people dressing up in the national dress, and visiting each other to gratulere med dagen
(congratulations with the day).
May is the best time of the year to visit Jordan, just before the crazy heat of the summer kicks in. Definitely make sure to visit the ancient city Petra, a city of rose-colored stones carved out from the Mount Hor’s rock-face.
The Scottish Highlands
Although the Scottish Highlands are beautiful year-round, there’s just something magical about May. It is still rather chilly May, yet the flowers are slowly starting to cover the highlands in beautiful colors.
After a long and cold winter, Bukhara is definitely the ideal place to visit in May, with its blooming tulips, warm temperatures (up to 30 degrees), and of course the Silk and Spices Festival.
May is the last month of pleasant weather before the rain season hits Japan. Just make sure not to visit during the golden week the first week of May, when everything will be super packed! However, the rest of May is really nice and the touristic sites won’t be quite as packed as other times of the year.
Where are you planning on going this month?
