OFF THE BEATEN PATH IN HONG KONG

Normally people associate Hong Kong with skyscrapers, the Peak, shopping, and nightlife, but what most people don't know before visiting Hong Kong, is that actually more than 75% of the area is actually covered in nature. And this happens to be one of the main reasons why I chose to look for an internship here; because of the endless of opportunities to explore mountains, waterfalls, jungles, and see wildlife that you don't expect to experience in any other bustling city.

If you're planning on spending a few days in Hong Kong, you definitely don't wanna miss out on a hike on the Dragon's Back trail, which is probably most scenic part of the Hong Kong trail. This very trail is named the Best Urban Hiking Trail in Asia, and for good reason. Located on Hong Kong Island, this trail is only a short busride from the Shau Kei Wan MTR station away, and it gives you beautiful views of the rural part of the island.

The whole hike is about 8,5 km long, but can easily be shortened by taking a trail to one of the many beaches along the trail. To make the most of the hike, I recommend going there during fall on a clear day, both to get the best views, but also because the hike can be a little steep at times.

Oh, and not to scare you off, but you might wanna watch your head during the trail. There are giant (friendly) spiders, who tend to like hanging just in the right height for people to walk straight into them. Now you're warned! :P
