A DAY IN MACAU

A DAY IN MACAU

Last weekend, my colleague and I decided to visit Macau for a day. Macau used to be a Portuguese colony and can be reached in only about an hour by the turbojet from Hong Kong. Today not much of the colonial Macau has remained, and is mainly known for being the Las Vegas of Asia, but there are still tons of things to experience!

We decided to leave for Macau in the morning and return at night to make the most of our day in the city. You can get to Macau by the Turbojet from the ferryterminal at Sheung Wan MTR station. The tickets are only about HK$170-190 for a seat in the economy class. Don’t forget to bring your passport, as you’ll technically be going to another country.

Whether you like gamling or not, you still have to visit some of the casinos. All hotels have free shuttles to and from the ferryterminal, which is really convenient. We decided to take a shuttle to the Venetian, and walk from that to several other hotels, and each of them had their own theme and surprises, such as the Dream Works parade we happened to pass by inside the Sands Resort.

Make sure to pay the old part of town a visit, and especially walk by the Ruins of Saint Paul’s. The old town offers some of the best food you can find in Macau, and you definitely don’t wanna miss out on their Portuguese Egg tarts, which you basically can find around every corner.

This September Macau was hosting the International Fireworks Contest, which means that there are fireworks shows every Saturday, and we were fortunate enough to get to experience that.

Today and tomorrow we’re celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival here in Hong Kong, which includes lanterns, dragon dance, and eating tons of mooncakes! Anyone else celebrating the festival this weekend?
